I think you make a great point. It seems I can't enjoy the end of a movie any more because I'm waiting for something crazy to happen. When it's a simple and straight forward ending I seem disappointed or at least surprised that nothing else happened. It's almost as if a movie can't be complete without a twist any more, especially thrillers. I was watching "While She Was Out" the other night and I was just waiting for someone to grab her at the end or her husband to be waiting with a pistol when she came in the door....I found the ending unbelievable. I remember when I only felt that way when there was a crazy twist...I guess it just goes to prove that you can have too much of a good thing.

the usual suspects. It's the first movie i ever saw with a twist that made me gasp. I'm sure I saw other movies with plot twists, but at this point i was in college and old enough to appreciate the jerk at the end of the flick.

But twists are cliche now. every two-bit writer out there goes out of their way to either set up some blockbuster ending or purposely shoots their movie in the ass to shock and awe. I HATE that.

if Cinderella were written today, she'd be some asian slave girl born to a Native American and an Eskimo. she'd meet the African Prince (manslave) of her dreams whose parents wouldn't approve.. because she's not dark enough. She'd struggle to prove her self worthy of his dark affections. Then, just after she's been tested via fire and water, she'd be carriage jacked, raped and murdered on her way to the ball.

Then the lights would come on and everyone would be robbed of the emotional release they were hoping for. It's like getting scuffed by teeth during an awesome blowjob.

It's a buzzkill and the fear of being led on and shat upon keeps me from watching movies until I know the ending isn't fucked up.
