Unchangable History?
icon1 cnj222 | icon2 Society | icon4 10 26th, 2009| icon3No Comments »

Why can’t we explore the possibility that we may have printed the wrong stories in the history books?  More and more evidence of the past that is not in any history book is being brought to the surface, and yet we don’t see any official printings of these artifacts or what they could mean for our history.  things are pulled and printed and maybe a theory or two, but it seems like it is impossible to change what is in the history books.

I am tired of reading what could be all false.  What people refuse to change simply because it is what has been taught in classrooms for generations.  One of the things that aggravates me the most is when people say that Columbus discovered America….I have a few major problems with this concept.  First, how do you discover a land that already has people living there?  Second, there have been soooo many artifacts proving (at least in my opinion) that Columbus was not the first European to find America.  One such artifact is the Kensington Runestone…and all of the stone structures that are found throughout North America.  There is also the possibility that the Chinese were also in America long before Columbus….So why then, do we still have Columbus Day and why do we still tell the lies in history classrooms throughout America, brainwashing elementary kids into “In 1492 Columbus sailed the Ocean Blue” and found America and blah blah blah….never mentioning that they also enslaved, raped, and robbed the natives that they did encounter.

I think it’s time that we took a serious look at our history books here in America and maybe make some long awaited revisions.  Not only to the facts, but what facts they choose to put in.  I believe that all of our nation’s people should be represented in the history books instead of the one sided view that we always seem…where minorities are over looked or skimmed over.

Security
icon1 cnj222 | icon2 Life, Society | icon4 10 25th, 2009| icon3No Comments »

I have written before about how people find security in a variety of things…for some people it’s a blanket, a community, a phone, locks, a relationship…it all depends on the person, but it seems to me that people don’t want to give up that security, no matter what it is….

We can see the resistance from the first moments of life in a baby’s cries, or in that of a grown woman crying nightly and staying with an abusive man because all she knows is in that relationship.  Or as I was reading today about church members not wanting to believe that the janitor murdered their own priest, even though he confessed to the act.  Not to mention that it doesn’t sound like it was just a quick act of rage, but a really bloody, violent murder where he repeatedly beat and stabbed the guy.  And yet because all of those people would have to think about a man like that being around their children at the school attached to the church and around them every week in church…they would rather just not allow themselves to believe it and live in denial.

What is it about denial that makes some people feel so good?  I understand that venturing out can be a very risky and scary thing…but at the same time, not facing the facts can also lead to danger and heartache.  This murder for example, what if it was up to the people of that church and they simply didn’t want to believe it and let him come back to his job as janitor simply to avoid the thought that their community found in the church is not as safe and secure as they believed.  And then what if it happened again…maybe even to a child next time….

Now granted we dont’ know what motivated the murder…it sounds like there are some suspicious things that had been going on….but that’s still not a reason to take a close look at what is going on because you afraid to lose the security.

Family
icon1 cnj222 | icon2 Life, love | icon4 10 21st, 2009| icon3No Comments »

What is family?  I have never thought of my family as just blood relations….but what makes a family?  Does it just take a caring heart…I think it’s more than that.  I think it has to be someone who loves you and cares about you…but more than that they have to be willing to stand by you and be there for you even in the toughest of times….someone who wont walk away because it got hard or they disagreed with a decision that you make.  Blood doesn’t make a family, heart of a person willing to give and sacrifice for another person makes a family….

On that same note, I’m not sure that family requires unconditional love …. or that unconditional is even available to most people.  It’s an interesting concept….LOVE…what is it that attracts some people together for a romantic relationship, parental relationship, or some other kind of family relations.

Life’s surprises

You never know what life will bring

What will come around the corner

What you may encounter next

What kind of reactions people will have

Who you will have to deal with and why

Will it be good news or bad news?

Will the dog lick you or bite you?

Will the storm be a show of majestic power or death and destruction?

Will someone stick by you or walk away?

Will things be easy or hard?

I guess it doesn’t matter as long as you take every day as it comes and get through everything that life throws at you.  Sitting alone at night thinking about where life has brought you can sometimes lead to your mind wandering into places that you never expected.  Coming back to dwell on thoughts of comfort and love…..

A place called home
icon1 cnj222 | icon2 Life | icon4 10 17th, 2009| icon3No Comments »

It’s strange how a place becomes a home…how sometimes you simply know that a place is where you belong and you have found your home….other times it sneaks up on you…you’re simply staying in a place…not really considering it home and then all of the sudden you realize that you are a part of the community, that you like where you live, that your apartment or house is now your home….all sorts of things begin to change…maybe one by one maybe all at once….simple things to important things.  Your team allegiances to your spot in society to your standing in a community.  It’s nice when you finally realize that you have found a home, somewhere to feel at peace, somewhere to belong.

There’s a lot to be said for the peace and calm that you have when you feel like you belong somewhere.  When you can look at the bad things people have told you about where you are and honestly say that it’s not that bad…and I honestly like it here anyway.  When you can feel comfortable with the people around you and know that you are accepted and able to be yourself.

It’s kind of strange how you can live some place for weeks, months, or even years without considering it home and then just one day it changes…..

The Moment

Don’t know what to do

Don’t know what to say

Spinning all around at the end of another day

Long hours ticked by slowly, while watching the clock

Now that it’s hear and you give a sigh

Lost in thought and trying to remember to relax

Trying to tune out the list of things to do, knocking at your brain

Trying to ignore the things that have been waiting for you to come through your door

Just wanting to relax, recuperate before resuming the daily tasks of life

The responsibilities that come with being alive and dealing with other people

Responsibilities that come with being a part of society

Wanting it all to go away and to only be with the ones you love and able to relax and enjoy

Able to sit and breathe without worrying about what you aren’t doing at the moment

Able to embrace and enjoy the moment for the love that fills it

Shocked

Has anyone ever asked you a question or said something to you or around you that you simply couldn’t believe?  Standing there not knowing what to say, except…that is completely inappropriate…why would you ask me that?  Wondering how you can tactfully tell them that it’s really none of their business….

Or have you ever been blamed for something that you really had nothing to do with.  Standing there in awe waiting for someone to clue you in on why you are to blame for whatever situation they don’t want to own up to…..like behavior that somehow you caused out of another person.  Or that you somehow forced another person to say something foolish.

What makes people think that they can say things or ask outlandish questions to people that they barely know, or even in authority over them….like it’s their right to pry into someone’s personal life….or to convince themselves that there is someone else to blame for whatever they don’t want to accept…..

If you’re at the receiving end that I’m sure you know about this feeling of pure shock….that you can’t believe what you are hearing…

Fiction reveals truths that reality obscures.
Jessamyn West

This is an excellent quote that reminds me of another quote from the movie V for Vendetta:  “Author’s use lies to tell the truth, Politicians use lies to hide the truth.”  I think that both of these quotes send a great message about how the truth can be revealed in the fiction that is created through people’s creativity….generally, it’s a pretty safe way to expose the truth, because the author can always claim that it was a fictional story that was completely made up, while others can see through the title of fiction and recognize the truth….

I have found in my own readings that I see a lot of things in the world today that have been exposed to me through fictional stories that I probably would not have thought about, or at least not analyzed as in depth if it hadn’t been for the stories that sparked the thoughts and connections to our worlds today.

I believe that artists and authors make such powerful statements through their work that are simply not appreciated as often or as much as they should be.  I think that a lot of a culture and society can be exposed by looking at what kind of creativity comes out of the people of that society.

It’s amazing at how good you can feel when you are removed from daily routine.  It’s crazy that you can still be working at the same job, maybe even doing the same things but in a different place and have it feel like a vacation.  Sometimes it’s just nice to see and experience new things.  Sometimes it’s just nice not to go to the same building on the same roads that you go to every day.  It’s really nice when you get to meet new people and do new things, and not worry about what is happening back at your real job site.  It’s almost like a paid vacation, even though you’re working the whole time.

Sometimes it is nice to be removed, but there are the challenges when you do start to wonder what is happening since you’re not where you normally are….is there something major that you’ll have to catch up on when you get back?  will something new need to be done before you get back, or right after?  will there be some new policy or another that you will be completely clueless on?  will some type of training happen and you’ll miss out?  Luckily, I think that most of us can honestly say that we’re not going to worry about it until we get back, but there always seems to be that one person who can’t help themselves.  They have to check their email and voicemails every hour or they feel lost and start to panic imagining the worse case scenarios in their head.

I think it’s nice to be treated differently, have new experience with people you probably would never have met other wise.  Meeting new people can always be interesting…generally it only goes one of two ways, either you get a long or you don’t….on very rare occasions (unless you have a certain type of personality) it can really just be a neutral, not one way or the other kind of experience.

Sometimes being away can make you miss what you normally have…sometimes it’s good to get away so you don’t get burnt out on what you do every day….sometimes though it can have the opposite affect and make you want to stay away….I’m glad my experience has been like a paid vacation and I think I’ll be happy to go back to my daily routine…just enough of a break to want to go back and see what’s goingo n and what happened while I was away.

Love pours forth

Bliss full reunion with your arms

Loving touch and gentle kiss

Passion explodes as the day goes on

Night time comes to loving embrace

Love and trust reassured in your eyes

Eyes so bright with love and life

The soul pouring forth

Delight and joy spilling forth as we unite

Together there is happiness

Only joy and laughter and love
