Back From Break

I think it’s kind of odd how quickly we can fall out of our routine.  Just as you’re getting use to the nice extended weekend of Thanksgiving and relaxing into a new routine…it’s back to work and the daily grind.  Unfortunately really, the fact that you can’t really take a break because you spend the first few days winding down from everything at work and then you have to spend the last day getting ready to go back to work.  Some people can’t even stay away that long from their work and end up sneaking into the office or working from home when they could be relaxing.  We’re so trained into our routine that if we do get to take a breath it’s only a quick one before our mind is back at the work place…thinking about going back, preparing paperwork, finishing up a project, or actually going into the office because you’re afraid of the work load that is building up while everyone is suppose to be on a break, since you know there are others like you that just can’t seem to take a real break.  What would it take for us to all just put work aside and concentrate on the important things in life?  Forget about money, bills, work, paperwork???  What would it take…Will it ever be possible?  Could it ever be possible?  I think that society has ingrained certain worries and concerns over certain responsibilities to the point that we have a really hard time putting them to the side and taking a break just for ourselves.  Simply relaxing for relaxation sake.  Enjoying our family and friends without a second thought to any work that is awaiting us on the desk or stacked on the table at home.  Going back to work from this wonderful long weekend made me realize how little of the break I actually enjoyed, which is why I think that we all feel like the break wasn’t long enough.  Like I said, we spend the first two days trying t let go of everything at work and then the last day getting back into the swing of things.

History

Who ever said that the history books were correct?  What makes us think that we can say beyond a shadow of a doubt what happened hundreds or thousands of years ago on this planet?  Even once we had the benefit of writing, most of the languages have been altered so much that it is sometimes impossible to detect what the author was actually trying to say.  Even stories written in plain English were not always accurate, we have no way of knowing if a person was telling the truth or if they were highly imaginative and enjoyed writing fiction in a believable way to entertain the people around them.

There are so many stories that have been false and yet have made it into the history books, to the point that many historians have refused to truly examine other possibilities…and it’s starting to be noticed.  Especially the lie about Columbus “discovering” America.  I’ve never heard anything more ridiculous, as more and more proof of this inaccuracy is revealed, why is it that we are still teaching this story as if it was fact.  Why are we still celebrating a holiday in honor of this rapist and robber?  Especially when there is a lot of proof that is emerging to suggest if not prove that there were many Europeans as well as Asians here before Columbus even thought about making his famous voyage.

Why is it that people deny the facts that are set right in front of them?  Why is it that people don’t ever want to look for what could have been and just accept what they are told about the past?  The past is what makes us who we are, don’t we want to know what the true past of our country is?  I simply don’t understand why it’s so hard for some people to believe that we may have made a mistake about what happened on this planet hundreds of years before we were on it.

Black Friday

While I enjoyed sleeping in, I woke up to see on the news the long lines, crowds, and car accidents that are the result of Black Friday.  I did also learn on the news that it gets the name because it is usually this day that makes the stores move from the red into the black to make a profit, which I found interesting….

I just don’t see why anyone would put themselves through the mess that the stores become…why get up at 2 or 3am and go wait in line outside of the store to open and get trampled on for the best sale of this or that…I’m just not sure that there are enough savings for me to go wait in line for 45 minutes to an hour at one store and go from one store to the next.  I’ve seen people pack coolers to keep in the car so when they drop off bags they can take a break without losing their parking spot.  Even if I wanted to shop today, by the time I would have arrived at the mall there were only cars circulating the parking lot looking for a space to park in.  People parking across the busy street and risking their lives to go from parking space to the store…just doesn’t seem worth it to me.  However, I know people who do it every year and do save hundreds on their Christmas shopping.

Just goes to show that one person’s worse nightmare could be another person’s greatest pleasure….

Thanksgiving

Another year, another time for Thanksgiving….

I don’t agree with what the history books like to portray as the first Thanksgiving, with Pilgrims in drawings, wearing clothing usually from the wrong time period, usually right next to Native Americans sometimes dressed in styles of multiple tribes…it seems that the pictures and books are never really researched or they would know that the fairytale of the first Thanksgiving is not at all what happened in reality.  Despite, all of the misconceptions surrounding the holiday I do still love to celebrate it and it makes me sad that it gets passed over for the money maker holidays of Halloween and Christmas.

I think I like Thanksgiving so much because it is a good reminder to simply be Thankful instead of worrying about what you don’t have or what isn’t going the way you wanted….simply saying Thank You for what is going right and the people you have to love and the blessings that have come your way.  For at least one day to just appreciate everything that you have not not worry about anything that you don’t have or haven’t accomplished.  I love that there is a day devoted to appreciating what we have in a society that has become so set on concentrating on what we don’t have or what we want.

In the days of the gimme generation growing more and more throughout society, it’s nice to have a reminder go out to simply be thankful instead of insisting on having the newest game, phone, etc…. Instead of making demands for things that haven’t been earned, or even if you have worked hard for them but haven’t achieved them yet….It’s nice to just take a moment and realize that you do have many blessings.

Subtle Bursting Passion

The passion bursts forth

Not knowing where it built

Not knowing how it came to be

Only knowing that it’s amazing

That there could never be a love so strong as this one

Knowing that the love will last forever if we let it

Love sneaking up into a mounting passion

No longer able to contain what you didn’t even realize was there

Flying high on a cloud of loving hot passion

In a perfect world for that short time

No worries or concerns

Only love, passion, and desire

Only the act of two becoming one in a loving embrace

Soft and subtle, building and building

Love and Passion Explode into perfect peacefulness.

Routinely Trapped

Trapped in the monotony, Day in and Day out

Feeling like there is no escape, No time off

Vacation is a dream of foggy delusion

Escape to rest without worry isn’t even a fantasy

Worry without regret, not wanting guilt left over

Stress and concern in mounting denial

Waiting for the right time that will never come

The perfect moment for bad news

The perfect moment to fix everything

Not wanting to hurt, but wanting to love

Trapped between preventing and embracing

Loving passion waiting on the other side of disaster

Explosion of unrealized desires

Wanting to get there but not knowing the direction to take

Lost in the grind of daily living

Needing release that isn’t found in routine

But lack the time to deviate from life…

Escape

I think that the human race has been so set on taking over the world that there is no longer an escape from society.  No place that you wouldn’t have to worry about the conventions that have been set forth.

It’s as if we are all trapped on an island of rules and regulations.  Society following you wherever you go.  There is no safe haven, some people can manage to keep their homes just for themselves and their families, but many, many others are allowing society to infiltrate in there as well.  Going by what society says in order to raise their children even though it’s not what they want in some cases.

So why is it that we can’t escape?  No matter which direction we turn or what road we go down, society is there waiting or quickly following on our footsteps.  I do think that having some rules is a good thing; however, it would be nice just to get away from time to time.  To be able to feel free and just be yourself without someone commenting or judging.  Even when you don’t care what someone thinks about you, it can still become obnoxious that they feel they have the right to judge you.

Blurred Night Light

Night light shinning in the darkness

Providing a glimpse of clarity in the confusion of night

Time distracted in the disorientation of sleep

Sleep eyes open just enough to see the blur of comfort

Quickly fading like a shooting star

As you fall back into the dark blanket of night

Bewildered, tracing dreams to reality

Mixing reality with dreams

Not knowing what is real and what is a trick of the mind

The night line shines with comfort

A crack of light from the door left open

As a gateway back into reality from the obscurity of sleep.

Waiting
icon1 cnj222 | icon2 Life | icon4 11 15th, 2009| icon3No Comments »

Why does it seem like there is always something to wait for….sometimes small things sometimes large.  Waiting for a certain time, for the work day to end, for the day to start, for a check to clear, for a pay check to come in, for a decision……

Sometimes you get so distracted waiting for things that you forget to live in the moment, enjoy what you have right now…..you can’t live your life waiting for something else, even though sometimes you may really need or really really want those things.

Sometimes you need to convince yourself not to dwell on the past or on the future…either way, you’re not living in the moment.  Always regretting is just as bad as always waiting.  If you are worried about a time that is not now then you will never really live.  Living in another time only prevents you from seeing the joys you have right in front of you.  On the same note, you must grab those opportunities and joys before they disappear and the option is gone, lost forever because you wouldn’t embrace it.  It is important to always see what is there in front of you and to enjoy it while you can.

It’s frustrating to look around at your life and the people around you and know that the boss is the one who gets to sit behind their desk and get paid 5 times more than you or more while you work your ass off.  Poor leadership is frustrating because it creates a poor work environment…if they’re not willing to do their job, there is a very slim chance that they are going to support you when you need it.  No Support in the work place makes you not want to go back.  To see the people who are suppose to be in the leadership roles frustrates you as they sit by and do nothing except criticize.  Never taking the time to find out how to make your job easier or how to support you but always adding a new responsibility to your job description so that their job is made easier.  It’s like some of our so called “leaders” feel that we are here to serve them instead of doing our own job.  Why is it that the those who work the hardest are always the ones that are over looked and get paid the least?  The leader gets to do all of the critique and take all of the credit but sometimes have no idea what the work actually entails that they are suppose to be supervising.  Sometimes they are so oblivious to the fact that maybe the people underneath them are doing the best they can with what they have and maybe that one extra thing cannot possibly get done within the confines.  Frustration builds up and so the work place is some place that is dreaded, where as it should make you happy to get up and go to work, eventually frustration can make you hit that snooze a few more times until one day you just roll over and decide you’re going to skip the annoyances that day.  I think that poor leadership can drive away good employees faster than anything else.
