I think it’s pretty interesting that fear seems to control a lot of our society.  Fear is used in the media for everything it seems…from who to vote for, what to think, new things coming to town, the reason for this that and the other thing.  Fear always seems to supply the motivation….I’ve known that fear was used as a method of control and motivation in our society, especially through media for quite some time, but what I didn’t realize is how it was used at all levels of society.

For example, if a boss is scared that they are going to lose their job or look bad because of those working under them, it always seems like they do their best to pass that fear along….the response to fear is so ingrained into some people that once the fear ball gets rolling, it keeps going and does all of the work for the person at the top.  Fear filters down until people are making up things and are afraid for their own jobs and reputations.

Why do we let fear control so many aspects of our lives?

I heard someone the other day talk about how in our society today it’s almost necessary to build up walls to protect yourself from all of the liars and scams that come around today.  However, if we spend so much time trying to protect ourselves by blocking things from coming in, how will we ever take the risk that is necessary for trust?  If we don’t take the risks for trust, how can we ever expect to develop any kind of real relationship?

People are so scared of being hurt that they don’t want to risk the amazing feeling of trust.  Sometimes it seems like the fear of the  little bit of pain that you could experience really battles for control over the love and trust that you could have with a person.  If you never open yourself and take that risk than trust will never be available to you….that has to be the loneliest thing in the world for someone…not to have anyone to trust.

I hope that most people can allow themselves for at least that one right person to open up to the experience of love and trust.  It would just make me sad to think of someone going their whole life without feeling those things.

What is romance and where can you find it?  Can it be in a song, book, letter?  What about a smile, wink, look?  A touch, a date, a dinner?  A flower, a gift, wine?  What makes something romantic?

Why is it that it seems like one thing could be one of the most romantic things you can think of and absolutely repulse another person or at least make them role their eyes and wish their way out of the conversation or worse the experience if your thoughts are already taking action…..Why is it that one thing might work with one person…maybe you truly enjoyed it, but then tried with someone else, and it is just no use…just wont work.  Why are some things amazing with one person and then boring, something you might even resent with someone else?

I think it’s interesting to see how much the idea of romance has changed, not only on a personal level, but also as a society.  I know I am a romantic at heart.  I love things with personal meaning, I love a lot of the classic ideas of romance…however, I have found that with the right person, almost anything can melt my heart and give me that feeling of romance.

Why is it that some people can be so careless with their words, thinking that nothing they say matters; when others feel like people should hang on every syllable?

Some people will say whatever pops into their minds, no matter what the consequences, mainly because they never stop to think about the consequences.  They also don’t always realize that somebody might be taking all of their spoken thoughts to heart.  Sometimes things should stay in a person’s head.  I, for one, am very glad that people can’t read each other’s minds.  I would be really embarrassed if people could hear or see every thought that popped into my head, and I don’t think I want to know what everyone around me really things about me.

Then the other group of people, don’t seem to realize when what they have to say really doesn’t affect the other person at all, and is just a waste of time as far as the listener is concerned.  Sometimes I think these people need to take a step back and realize that not everyone is going to care, and they should not automatically assume that people do care about what they have to say.  Not everyone is going to have the same interests as these talkers, but these people just don’t seem to realize that not everyone wants to listen.  Not everyone wants to waste their time with what the talker feels is important.  Some people just want to know what they absolutely need to know and then move on with their lives.

It’s always amazing how two extremes exist every day side by side.  I’m not sure how people don’t drive each other crazy every day.  Or maybe they do and we just don’t hear about it.

What will the future hold?  What will the world be like?  Will it be like the Science Fiction books, or the cartoons and movies that have been so popular?  Or will it be the opposite, some big disaster sending us all back to the stone age?

It’s pretty interesting when you look at all of the different views of the future that people have imagined.  It seems as though people have tried to imagine or even predict the future for as long as I know of.  There have been books written like 1984 because the author thought that is what the world would be like 50 years from the time of the Nazis that he was growing up in.  A time when everyone was afraid that everywhere would be taken over and controlled.  Movies are made every year it seems with a new vision of the future, from the Jetsons, The Fifth Element, etc….People love to imagine what we don’t know about the future.

I have to wonder if people try to imagine the future because it’s exciting, or because they are scared?  do they really want to know or do they just hate not knowing?  What is it about the future that draws our imaginations in?  It’s the same quality as outer space, the unknown that we want to explore, or love to imagine because the possibilities are endless.

The future is another unknown element that just can’t be ignored.  Imaginations running wild, going through the endless possibilities.

Memories seem to be of importance in most cultures, back to ancient times when it was a treat to hear the story of the culture’s history.  And then we moved to journals and works of art (clay, paintings, tapestries, etc).  Writing the unknown thoughts that pour forth, the gaping knowledge you can’t always tap, not wanting to lose it….but why have we always wanted to keep things from our time alive?  Do we really write it to go back and read, do we hope that someone else will read it later?  Do we write to keep things alive at all, or to let it go?  What is the real purpose of all of the traditions that go into the keeping of memories?  It seems like every culture has their own traditions about storytelling and memories, but do they tell them to keep them alive and well or to let them go and learn from the past?

Brick wall covered in dirt

Surrounds the trapped mind

Not knowing only wondering

Thinking chaotic confusion

Circles swirling in the entrapment

Tumbling, Spinning, Something Missing

Pounding want for understanding

Falls on deaf ears

Muted by the bricks and stone

Alone and cold, you wait

Fighting the natural instinct to scream

You wait, listen, thinking

Round and Round you travel within yourself

Discovering the own horrors and depths of your mind

Finding the enclosed space of your head and thoughts to suffocate

Arms wrapping around as the only defense

The bricks and dirt close in on the spinning mind.

Summer nights die down as the stars still shine bright

Bright and cold they look down as the nights cool off

No more celebration bomb fires of carefree summers

The cool autumn nights alerting us to the changing winds of winter

The natural stages of change that come with being alive

Every being must experience the different seasons of life

Time comes and goes, people love, and experience new things

All things pass through the seasons of life.

Whispering wind spill your secrets

Tell us what you know

Across the land the wind blows clean

Picking up a little something from everywhere

Everyone contributes as it passes through

The secrets that are gathered are breathed in the exhale

Listening out in the windstorm you hear the roaring of the powerful wind

Listening for a touch of the unknown

A breath of what lies beyond where you’ve gone

The wind free to travel and experience flows through the trees

Rustling breath moves the leaves and sharing the magic

The colors glisten in the sunshine

No sound in the stillness

No happy chimes of the gentle breeze

Still sitting beautiful

Outside as seasons change

The beauty stays but changes with the leaves

Gently falling in the autumn breeze

Musical chimes arise as the winds of change increase

Waiting for the perfect moment to make the change

A change that we all go through in life, one that defines us.
