The Lost Child

Looking into her vacant eyes
Seeing the disappoint of her life
The pain and suffering trials
As the sun goes down the lights go out
Too hurt, dirty, and poor to get attention and help
Ignored as she sufferes in silence
You can see but don’t know how to approach
She pretends to read the book trying to gain an escape
Dreading the bus trip home but not as much as the arrival
The cold, dark, damp, and empty welcome that comes each day
Stomach rumbling as she closes the door
Going to bed under the thin ragged covers
Afraid to complain, and not knowing anything different
Living sad and lonely, dreams of breaking free
Reaching out with an encouraging smile, and gentle touch
You see her there but no plan of action
No right to intervene
No right to care, but can’t resist
The urge to hold and comfort someone so young yet so full of affliction
Not able to compare your own life of comfort to the one you see in front of you
So lost and lonely, with no link to everyone around her
Feeling the weight of her differences with no way to hid them
She remains in the back corner alone
