Invisible

The invisible girl at the end of the counter

Waiting again, she sighs and stirs the coffee

Waiting in the shadows alone

Waiting to be seen, but not willing to step out

Knowing there is more out there but feeling trapped

Having memorized the fairytale

Waiting for the magic transformation

Sitting with another bruise and sunglasses

Sitting with as much hurt on the inside

Wanting him to walk in and find her

But dreading the discovery at the same time

Invisible….is the thought

Invisible is the best way

Educational Purpose

What is the purpose of an education?  Teachers today have to teach their content area, act as a mother/father, counselor, nurse, teach manners, etiquette, coach…and basically just fill in the gaps.  Why is it that some parents can be so wonderful and supportive of their children, while others can’t wait for school to start back up because they feel like schools provide free child care and comes with statements like:  “let them deal with them” or “they’re your problem now.”  It amazes me that some people don’t even want to own up to the fact that they have children, have no interest in raising them, simply give birth and leave it at that.

It’s amazing how some kids can be sent to school without having had anything to eat, no money, and haven’t slept at all the night before for whatever reason.  Then teachers are suppose to get that child ready for college when that kid really needs a good home life, not to know his times tables.  Not that they don’t need an education or don’t deserve it, but how can we expect these children to concentrate on academic work when all that they can think about is how hungry they are?

Are teachers suppose to work on the character of the student, the academics of the student, the extracurricular activities and abilities of the student, or supporting the student?  The truth is that they are expected to do all of that and make sure that the child is ready for college and “the real world.”

Today teachers are held accountable, which sounds like a good idea, until you realize that the people coming up with the standards and the evaluation process have never had anything to do with education.  They aren’t putting the students first, they are putting the numbers first, and that is not the way to help our students.

Teasing Spring

A peek at spring was here today

Warm weather and loving the idle strip tease

The snow is gone, the grass and trees bare to the sun that shines

The sun shining down on us, reminding us of what will be here soon

Trying to remember the sun, heat and green grass

We see some of it today and hope the freeze over will not come again

Is it a tease without touching?  Or is it there to stay for the season?

Can we expect the same tomorrow, or was it a one day offering?

A pleasant reminder or a tease?

Leaving you to wait for the whole pleasure

We wait wondering if we can stand the drastic change and backward motion

Can we bare to see the winter wind come back and the isolation set back in around the tree that appears dead?

Or can we wait to see the green grass spring up and the leaves sprout out to fully enjoy the warmth?

Confusion

Confusion pressing down

Clamping on as you feel the walls cave

Relationships spinning

People yelling

No where quiet

No where peaceful

Confusion of the system

Of the society

Nobody looking

Nobody laughing

Just chaos

Bleak

The white bleakness blurs the window as you try to peer outside

The sunny south today, is nothing but a lie

Putting all hopes of the sun coming out aside

Not knowing how to proceed, not being able to leave

Stuck inside and alone, the gray sky all you can see

Sitting down with a movie and a cup of tea

Trying to cheer up and enjoy the time off

Pulling the pillow close and embracing how soft

The boredom growing tough

All alone and nothing but the white fuzz outside

Nobody coming by

Nobody would even try

Too dangerous on these unknown roads

People not use to the ice and the cold

Going out is only for the bold

Being safe and keeping warm

Nothing today is true to form

Who could have saw this storm?

Stepping Back

Stepping back through the looking glass

Alice got slapped in the face with the harshness of reality

As she spun around to get back in, the door was closed, and rejection set in

Stuck in a cruel world without an escape, knowing something more fanciful is out there

Knowing that there is another place where the impossible becomes reality

By a simple change of perspective as the reflection is reversed

Stepping behind the glass and into a world of imagination

Holding fast to the untrue beliefs that got her this far

Everything became upside down and backwards, in a whirlwind of disbelief

But stuck in the middle of the new reality of the unreal

Wanting nothing more but to get back into the world of make believe

A world where anything you wanted could happen

She pounded on the glass, begging to come back to the strange world with stranger ways

She yelled and hollered for them to let her back in…..but nothing happened

Realizing it was useless, she turned to face the facts

Facts that a few minutes ago were ridiculous and easily proved wrong, now governed her again

Wishing she were back, but accepting that she’s not, she walked on

Into the world of rules and reality, where the perspective is back tot he straight and the narrow

The confusion and the silence set in, but she is back into her world and can never step back over again.

Beautiful Sights

The most beautiful sights are sometimes the most common things in life

A smile or a rainbow, a warm gentle rain, or a glimpse of love

The person you love and a smile that gleams through their eyes

A waterfall in the middle of the woods, secluded and romantic

A cozy dinner and movie in the arms of passion

Smiles and laughter when you need it the most

A child’s innocence staring back through the nonsense

A passion dressed in the white of purity

Some beautiful things can never be replaced

Tis the Season

It’s that time of year again when the weather turns cold, you’re trying to make sure that you have a gift for everyone that will be at the family get together this year.  Trying to align schedules and make everyone happy, while the people on the street have nasty attitudes and even worse driving habits.  You try to stay calm and not use your horn or your finger as you’re trying to cruise down the street in peace listening to your Christmas music on the radio.  But one person after another cuts you off, or flings something out their window, or is just plain rude in one way or another and by the time you get home you’re frustrated.  No matter how hard you try to forget about it, you’re still frustrated.  And everything, every little thing, that happens after that makes you more and more frustrated until you feel like you’ll simply fall apart.  You feel like at any minute your very being will fly into a million pieces and you will bust apart as the tears start to fall….no real reason, just too many high powered emotions rushing you at the same time.

Sometimes you wish your life was more like one of the Christmas movies you like to watch at this time of year, where the whole family learns a valuable lesson and everyone is smiling and singing Christmas Carols by the fire at the end of the movie…..unfortunately, life is not like that, not by a long shot.  You’re probably going to have to fight every person in that room if you want them to play the piano, stand around the piano and sing instead of watch whatever game is coming on tv.

Sometimes you wish Christmas was about what you thought it was about all of those years ago.  What the Whoos make it about in one of my favorite Christmas movies, when little Cindy Loo Who wants to make sure that everyone knows Christmas for what it is, instead of what we have turned it into.  I think sometimes we do lose track of what is important.  Even if your family is driving you crazy this Christmas season, it is important that they are still here and that you can still see them.  That you still love them, because they are family and it’s Christmas.  Hopefully we can all keep it together, long enough to remember that message.

New Experiences

Life is full of new experiences, some of them are planned out for days, weeks, months, sometimes even years.  Sometimes it seems like you wait forever to try something that you have always had your eye on, and then other times, something new can catch you by complete surprise.  Sometimes it’s a good thing, but it can be bad, or at least uncomfortable…other times it is fun, new and exciting.  The thing about surprises, is that you never know until it happens if you’ll get a positive or negative outcome….or sometimes neutral.

It’s funny how new experiences can spring themselves on you, while others you have to fight and work hard for.  It could be something as natural as falling in love, something that you have no control over at all….or it could be stumbling upon an academic program and going back to school.  Or maybe you worked hard to gain access to the academic program of your choice, just to find out at the last minute you missed one of the qualifications listed, so you had to settle for second best.

Sometimes surprises can come at the most inconvenient time, while other times, they hit you at just the right moment and throw you for a huge pick-me-up that you’ve been waiting for.  Sometimes a new experience can open your eyes to a whole new perspective on the world, a whole new set of things that you never knew existed.  Sometimes experiencing something one time can be all you need to find the freedom to enter the whole world and continue to take it up a step each time you go through the door.  Sometimes a crack in the door is the only invitation that you need in order to join the playing field.

The world of the stars

Looking at the stars, feeling all alone,

From the start, not knowing where the finish line is

How can you line up for the end when you don’t know where it’s marked?

How can you head in the right direction when you can’t see the guiding stars?

The stars brilliantly bright one minute and then covered in gray clouds the next.

Quickly fleeting, the only comfort and support is gone in the blink of an eye.

Not knowing when or where, not knowing how long or how much…

Only knowing that you’re here, not sure if anyone notices or not.

Knowing you’re alone in what you stand to do

Not knowing if there will be another beside you or behind you

Will they push you forward or stab you in the back, bringing you to a halt?

The stars peek out twinkling long enough for a glimmer of hope…

Before they disappear back into the world of the unknown

Your world is here, as much as you would like to be up there looking down

Your world is not shared but here and now

Your world is under the stars, and praying they wont leave you too

Your world is here…….where will you go?
