It’s strange how a lot of times when you’re uncomfortable, sick, stressed, etc. There are certain things that you look for and just know that one little thing could make you feel so much better even though it doesn’t actually change anything. Sometimes it’s a food, sometimes a person’s voice, sometimes a person hugging you or cuddling up with you on the couch. Different things comfort different people and a lot of the time, people need different things to provide different comforts. Sometimes at the same time, like going out for your favorite meal with the person that you love and trust because you’re feeling stressed or upset about something…

Comfort sometimes is found in a book covered in the warmth of your bed, or a favorite movie….it’s strange how some little things can provide so much comfort for you.

Feelings change with everything that is added to them or takes away from them. Comfort can be such an easy thing to provide, or such an easy thing to take away…it all depends on the perspective of the person and how easily they are affected by different things that come their way, or how they react to not getting what they want when they want that familiar comfort.

Embarrassment is a strange emotion. It comes when you least expect it and can come in so many forms, in so many places, and from so many different people. The other thing about embarrassment is that it can last for all sorts of different time spans. Some people are able to let go of embarrassment rather quickly, while others can hold on to it, and begrudge anyone who saw them get embarrassed. Some people can even embrace the feeling and turn it into a positive experience because they like all of the attention, while others spend all of their time hiding in the shadows, dodging all of the attention from everyone or at least the people who are not close to them.

It’s amazing how certain people can make you always feel safe and never make fun of you or embarrass you. It has always interested me to know how some people you can just connect with right away and never look back, never regret that relationship, and never feel betrayed. I think that we should feel lucky to know people that make us feel safe and secure, people who appreciate us for who we are and don’t hold our little malfunctions, or quirks against us. These people we should always hold close to our hearts and never let get too far away.

Embarrassment, I think is one feeling that can really tell you a lot about your relationship with the people that you are around. Some people can make you feel better about it, brush it off, laugh it off, and some people will hold it against you and point it out to everyone who comes your way.

Vacation is a wonderful thing, able to relax and enjoy the time you have and the days of leisure…but all good things come to an end, and sometimes that end is brought about by too much of a good thing. Sometimes the people that you spend the time with and look forward to…start to get a little bit annoying, as I’m sure you do to them. Mannerism become apparent and repetitive, and sooner or later, too much of a good thing is no longer a good thing.

Vacation can be a good thing and can be a nice relaxing trip, but sooner or later reality kicks in and you have to back to work and to the every day life. Sometimes going back is a welcomed change, or some parts are and some parts aren’t. The welcomed parts can be the safety of a routine or the people that you miss seeing. I don’t know many people that enjoy returning to work. Sometimes at the end of a group trip, what you really want is a day or two to catch your breath. Sometimes a vacation is more stressful than the every day life, but there are highlights, and good times, and good memories. Just don’t let them build up past their welcome.

Sometimes we get so caught up in our comfort zones with things that it takes a friend or someone to give a little bit of a push or grab us by the arm and yank us out of the hole we have dug for ourselves. Sometimes it’s nice to have the familiar things to fall back on, but other times it’s nice to break out and try something new…food, clothes, places, people…..I guess sometimes you have to be in the right mood, but often times it works out for the best, even if you didn’t want to go out of the box originally.

Sometimes we have to convince ourselves that it would be for the best if we went ahead with the plans that we make…even when you start to turn back as they get closer. Sometimes we have to embrace the new paths that are put in front of us, even when we don’t want to let go of the old dirt road we’ve been following for most of our lives.

Sometimes a little push will make a huge difference….each new person that we meet, or new experience that we have we gain new characteristics ourselves, even if it’s just a change in the way that we think…the whole thought process is a big part of each person.

Providing a glimpse of clarity in the confusion of night

Time distracted in the disorientation of sleep

Sleep eyes open just enough to see the blur of comfort

Quickly fading like a shooting star

As you fall back into the dark blanket of night

Bewildered, tracing dreams to reality

Mixing reality with dreams

Not knowing what is real and what is a trick of the mind

The night line shines with comfort

A crack of light from the door left open

As a gateway back into reality from the obscurity of sleep.

You never know what life will bring

What will come around the corner

What you may encounter next

What kind of reactions people will have

Who you will have to deal with and why

Will it be good news or bad news?

Will the dog lick you or bite you?

Will the storm be a show of majestic power or death and destruction?

Will someone stick by you or walk away?

Will things be easy or hard?

I guess it doesn’t matter as long as you take every day as it comes and get through everything that life throws at you. Sitting alone at night thinking about where life has brought you can sometimes lead to your mind wandering into places that you never expected. Coming back to dwell on thoughts of comfort and love…..

I heard on the tv show HOUSE tonight a great line, “Religion isn’t the opium for the masses, it’s the placebo for the masses.” I think this line can speak a lot of truth for a lot of people….I think that most people have something that has this effect of comfort for them. ..Something that they look to when they are trying to find answers for questions that simply have no explanations.

As humans we seem to have a problem with not knowing the answers, we can’t except things that just are, we have to find an explanation for everything in this world….and what’s beyond it, if there is anything at all. It seems to be hard for people, myself included, to just take things for what they are.

I don’t think we’re meant to understand the way life works, whether you believe in God, a higher being, fate, or nothing at all…there just seem to be things that we can’t control and usually don’t understand why they happen the way they do….but none the less we have to deal with what comes our way, so we might as well just accept what is there. Why search for answers that will most likely never come…why not just take life one day at a time and enjoy as much of it as you can and not worry about everything else.
