Shining Thru

It is strange the things that can make a person feel safe and secure.  The things that make you feel at peace and at home….maybe a stuffed animal from when you were little, a lucky coin someone important in your life gave you, or even knowing that the person you love is nearby. 

It’s strange how when that thing that makes you feel safe and secure, at home…is missing, how quickly you can feel like something is off in your life..something is off balance and out of sorts…..

It’s pretty interesting what each person finds important in their life…the things that you can’t live without…unfortunately I think that sometimes people don’t realize the importance of some things until they are gone…sometimes forever.  But I think that other people are lucky enough to realize the great value in things other than material wealth.  Although some people are perfectly content living to gain money and wealth, fame and fortune…but that’s not for everyone.  I think that most people are searching for something deeper than that…something that makes you feel secure in the fact that it can never be taken from you.  For me that thing is the true love for one person, the person that you know you don’t want to live without, the one person that you want to live with for the rest of your life.  Emotional security is sometimes hard to find, but I think if you have love and trust, you will find all of the safety and security that you are looking for. 

When you do find the things that you have been longing for all of your life, don’t let go, enjoy the warmth and security that they bring and trust that everything else will work out.  The details are irrelevant when you know you have found love…at least for me.

I heard a wonderful quote today, “we measure a man’s greatness by how much it takes to discourage him.”  I really like what this quote has to say, and I think that it says a lot in a few words.  How do we measure the greatness of a man?  Our society has many different views on this, it depends on who you ask I’m sure.  I think that a man is great if he has realistic goals and doesn’t stop trying to meet them.

I think that too many people give up on life too easily….too many people settle for what is available to them, many never try to go beyond what is expected of them by their family.  If their parents made it in poverty..why struggle to get beyond that, why not just give up and accept that this is your place in life…..

I really admire people who do not settle, who go after what they want.  I consider myself lucky to have a supportive family and group of friends, but I know not everyone is so lucky.  As stated in a previous post, many people are lied to with the thoughts of the American Dream, it’s not as easy as the legends make it out to be.  There are a lot of forces in society working against people rising above what they were raised in; however, some people are lucky enough and stubborn enough to do just that.  I consider those people great, no matter if they are knocked down a hundred times, they never give up.

Greatness is making up your own mind about things.  Greatness is living your own life, despite everything around you.  Greatness is being your own person, with your own goals, your own expectations, and your own dreams.

Who should decide our expectations????  I think something that is very important to remember in this life and this world is that you are the only one who has to live with you 24 hours a day 7 days a week.  If you define yourself by anyone else’s standards there will always be a short coming because you wont really be you.  Husbands, wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, children, grandparents, coworkers, all of these people are important in different ways but they do not have to live with you all the time… they don’t see you when you’re alone with your thoughts…they have no idea what is truly in your heart unless you are confident enough to live your life according to you. 

I hope that everyone can have the confidence and support around them to live their life according to their life dreams and expectations.  Sometimes our dreams are unrealistic, but I suppose that’s what makes them dreams.  I think that we should set goals (realistic goals) for ourselves and strive towards them and keep our dreams as our inspiration.
