Did you find what you wanted?

I think it’s strange how some things can really catch you off guard, something completely out of the routine, it wasn’t suppose to happen or maybe something completely out of character for you or a person around you. Something that is obviously not apart of the normal every day life that you are use to learning. It’s also a little ironic how so many people complain about how boring their lives are….until something out of the ordinary does happen, something that wasn’t expected and wasn’t really wanted…..
Maybe an illness or an out of control car, either way they were equally unexpected and something that you would rather have your normal day over any time. It would be nice if when your car starts to twist and turn on the road and you pray that no one else is around you on the slick surface that you could just go ahead and make the switch back to the tedious day that you dreaded going through the day before…or as you’re laying in bed coughing, you could just get up and go back to the routine of work and daily chores.
Some surprises are wonderful and the unexpected can really be exhilarating, some change to the monotony of the change can be a wonderful thing that can really make you feel happy and free from the daily grime. Sometimes something that catches you off guard can change your entire week, month, or even life….you never know what’s going to come your way, good, bad, or otherwise.

“All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better. ”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
I have to say that some people would disagree with Emerson. Some people get really annoyed and even angry when you try to go beyond the normal happenings of the day, when you try to throw something new into the routine. Some people prefer to know exactly what will happen every day no matter what…while others never want the same routine. I think that most people have parts of their life in a set routine, either what they do at work, or how they get up int he morning, or what they do when they get home….some of these routines are hard to break, while others you can bounce all around and still get things done.
However, there are some people who live for adventure. Some people choose jobs like police officers, hiking guides, different jobs that don’t have set routines and they are able to see and do different things with different people each day.
I have to wonder how many people are the adventurous type and how many are the type that like routines to the point where they have an off day all day whenever something does not fall the way it has int he days before it. I’m willing to bet there are more people that lie somewhere in between, I know there are extremes, but I think most people would agree that trying some new things is a good thing and some routine is also nice at times.

Trapped in the monotony, Day in and Day out
Feeling like there is no escape, No time off
Vacation is a dream of foggy delusion
Escape to rest without worry isn’t even a fantasy
Worry without regret, not wanting guilt left over
Stress and concern in mounting denial
Waiting for the right time that will never come
The perfect moment for bad news
The perfect moment to fix everything
Not wanting to hurt, but wanting to love
Trapped between preventing and embracing
Loving passion waiting on the other side of disaster
Explosion of unrealized desires
Wanting to get there but not knowing the direction to take
Lost in the grind of daily living
Needing release that isn’t found in routine
But lack the time to deviate from life…

Sometimes it’s hard to see the beauty through the clouds
The dark but non threatening clouds that hang about
Sometimes it’s hard to appreciate the beauty in front of you
It can be right in front of us and yet we miss it some how
Maybe we’re preoccupied…maybe we’re simply not looking
I wonder how many things people miss every day, gorgeous sites that everyone should love and appreciate and yet they’re not even noticed because of the way we live our lives…..
Our culture is so face paced these days…when was the last time you could take a step back and appreciate the beauty right in front of you, maybe in a person, maybe in nature, maybe in an atmosphere??? I believe there is beauty around us most of the time, it just depends if it can shine through to distract us from our problems or stress….or be bright enough to make us look up from our scheduled lives….
Always on the clock, tic toc, tic toc….Most of us fall into the nice little routine, which is fine but then what if you deviated just long enough to see a beautiful waterfall…or stop to appreciate the power of the lightening in the storm…or the charm of your own home??? What things do we lose every day by allowing ourselves to fit into a mold?

It’s funny how we get use to things sometimes….and yet fight other things until the bitter death, maybe we never get used to it. You can be an addict to all sorts of things that people don’t realize. You can even be an addict to routine, especially when you find a routine that you like, feel comfortable in, or just find that it makes you feel better. What is it about some changes that seem so natural and maybe even necessary, but other changes are just met with dispute, anger, frustration….
It’s crazy how good some little things can make you feel. Something as simple as being able to talk to someone every day to start off the day; for some people it’s as simple as a cup of coffee to start off their day. Everyone has their own comforts in life, some of us settle for the small comforts in life and are satisfied with the happiness that it brings to us. Others need material things, expensive things in order to be happy. For some people it’s control, they need to be in control of every situation around them, they need to feel powerful in order to be happy.
I think it’s pretty amazing how most people I know fall into a pattern and then don’t quite feel right if that routine is broken for any reason that they didn’t see coming. We are creatures of habit, no matter how much some people want to deny it, I still believe it’s true. I also don’t think there’s anything wrong with having a routine you are comfortable with. Life is too short to go around miserable, if you find something that makes you happy, you should stick with it, not deny yourself because you feel like you’re getting too set in your ways. I think a lot of the happiness just comes from knowing what to expect for the day. I think it makes people comfortable to know what is going on, and nervous and tense when they don’t have something set up for the day.
